I can't believe its been over a week since our little angel was born, time is already going by so fast! We had a bit of a rough week, on wednesday we came home from the hospital and all seemed to be going okay until Friday when we had the nurse do our home visit. She said that Audrey had dropped from her birth weight (6lbs 8oz) to 5 lbs 11oz (she was 5lbs 15 oz at discharge Wednesday) and that her jaundice seemed to be getting worse. She did a bilirubin test and they came back at 18.1 - this concerned us because they normally would hospitalize at 20. So it was much higher than we anticipated.
The doc told us she must not be getting enough fluids from nursing to flush her system properly and that we should start supplementing her with formula. Another big issue was that as time went by she seems more and more lethargic, sleeping most the day and barely waking to eat. I had a horrible time trying to feed her and ended up switching to pumping so we could monitor just how much she was taking in with the supplemental formula. After a few days of lots and lots of work, we're finally seeing some results. She's eating regularly, she feels like she's gaining weight, and her color has improved. We have a doc visit on Thursday to see our progress.
I'm so thankful that Jason was home to help out while we were going through all this, he's been a huge help! Ella has also been very helpful, getting mommy things and helping with chores around the house. Thankfully the issues haven't made Audrey a fussy baby, she is still such a quiet happy baby and just loves being held and being close to mommy. We feel so blessed that things are looking up and we're on the road to having a happy healthy baby :)
