Did you know that the gulf stream, located in the Atlantic ocean as a warm water river running west to east through the ocean, was discovered in 1513 by the explorer Ponce de Leon? However, though it was de Leon's discovery, Benjamin Franklin made historical discoveries about its currents and weather patterns during a trip home to America after the news of the death of his wife. Franklin took water temperatures and drew nautical maps to market the stream for a quick journey home to England.
